Each year, Get Covered Illinois redetermines enrollee eligibility for financial help such as Advanced Premium Tax Credits (APTC) and Cost-Sharing Reductions (CSR). To make it easier to renew your financial help annually, you may provide us with your consent to request your income data from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and other trusted data sources during the renewal process. This allows Get Covered Illinois to use your income data, including information from your tax returns, to check whether you are eligible to continue to receive financial help. If you don’t provide your consent, then your insurance will be renewed without financial help.
How do I provide consent for Get Covered Illinois to request my income information from the IRS and other trusted data sources?
When you submit or update your Get Covered Illinois eligibility application and request a determination for financial assistance, you provide us your consent to access your income information and determine your eligibility for financial help for that coverage year. On the final “Sign & Submit” section of the application, you can additionally provide us your consent to automatically check your income data and renew your eligibility for financial help for up to 5 more years.
How do I know if I have provided consent for Get Covered Illinois to check my income data and renew my eligibility for financial help?
To see whether you have provided consent for Get Covered Illinois to check your income information when your eligibility is up for renewal, log in to your Get Covered Illinois account at GetCoveredIllinois.gov and follow the steps below:
1. Select My Applications
2. Select View & Print Application Summary
3. Review the Agreements section of your application summary to see the number of years of consent you have provided for Get Covered Illinois to check your income information.
If you have not provided your consent and wish to do so, update your application.
Note: If your account was transferred to Get Covered Illinois by the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS), Get Covered Illinois may have established an application for you using information from your HFS application. If you want Get Covered Illinois to automatically renew your financial help for the next year, update your application to provide us your consent to request your income data and renew your eligibility for future years.
What can I do if I was renewed without financial help because my consent expired or was not provided?
If you were renewed without financial help because you did not previously provide us your consent to check your income data or because your consent had expired, simply update your Get Covered Illinois eligibility application. By submitting your updated application, you consent to us checking your income data against trusted data sources and determining your eligibility for financial help for the application year.
