If the loss of your job occurred/occurs during open enrollment, which begins on November 1, 2025, and ends January 15, 2026, you can apply for coverage right away. If the loss of your job occurs outside of the open enrollment period, you can apply for coverage through a special enrollment period because loss of job-based coverage is considered a qualifying life event. You must apply within 60 days of losing your coverage to qualify for a special enrollment period. To apply for coverage, visit GetCoveredIllinois.gov and click 'Enroll now'.
If you need help applying, you can call the Get Covered Illinois Customer Assistance Center at 1-866-311-1119 (TTY: 711) and speak with a representative. You can also reach out to a Get Covered Illinois-certified broker or Navigator. They offer free, local help applying and enrolling in coverage. Visit GetCoveredIllinois.gov and click on 'Get Help' to find a broker or Navigator near you.
Illinoisans who lost their job and job-based healthcare coverage can also apply for Medicaid or All Kids online at abe.illinois.gov. If the individual is determined ineligible for Medicaid or All Kids, their information will be transferred to Get Covered Illinois.
