The comprehensive health care reform law enacted in March 2010 (sometimes known as the ACA, or “Obamacare”). Get Covered Illinois operates Illinois' state-based marketplace in accordance with the ACA.
The law provides numerous customer benefits and protections, including:
- Making health coverage more accessible and affordable. The law provides customers with subsidies (“premium tax credits”) that lower costs for households with incomes between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level (FPL).
- Protecting individuals with pre-existing conditions from higher healthcare costs, while ensuring all customers have access to essential health benefits.
- Expanding the Medicaid program to cover all adults with income up to 138% of the federal poverty level (FPL). (Illinois has expanded its Medicaid program.)
